This short AppleScript program prints a message to the console.

tell application "Finder"
        "Hello World"
end tell

The Script tells the Application called "Finder" to display the String "Hello World". This string will be printed at the console.

tell application "Finder"
	display dialog "Hello World"
end tell

The Script tells the Application "Finder" to show a dialog box, with the contents "Hello World".
